Welcome to Our Heritage

Audio & Visual

As I have said before, I vividly remember the day in the 1940s when I saw for the first time a machine that could collect sounds — a rare wire recorder. During the second world war Germans perfected a better recorder that used tape and when tape recorders began to appear in stores in the 1950s I was eager to have one. Over the next few decades a sound collection grew to over 5000 hours as I endeavored as a teacher to share my passion for  “living history” with my students.

I feel strongly that these moments on time should not be locked away but be available as a learning tool for us all.  So in this section of Our Heritage website the collection is available to anyone interested.  I will add to it as time permits.
